Figure 2a. Pictures of the macro-dispersive type spinel pellet. The picture left shows the outer surface of the pellet; the spheres are popping out due to differences in shrinkage behaviour. A cross section of the pellet (centre picture) reveals the presence of local concentrations of the spheres. This is accentuated by the picture on the right, an alpha-autoradiography of the same cross section. The diameter of the pellets is 8 mm.

Figure 2b. Similar pictures as in figure 1a for a micro-dispersive type spinel pellets. The pellet does not show any popping out of the spheres. The interior of these type of pellets reflect an homogeneous distribution of the spinel and the spheres.
