Figure 6. Sand samples that were removed from a scanned section. (left) Binary image in which the pores are blue and the well-rounded grains are gray.  (right)—Individual sand grains have been isolated and then colored to aid in differentiation of particles.  The pore space is transparent. Samples are 3.1 mm along the outside edges and have an image resolution of 11 um.  See Thompson et al. (2006) for further information.
