Figure 3.  (Left) In reconstituted laboratory sediments gas bubbles typically form as spheroids with aspect ratios close to one. (Right) In natural sediments, gas bubbles formed as oblate spheroids with aspect ratios that range from 1.5 to 6.  Sample diameter is 14 mm and image resolution is 28 um.
